Setting A Community Table
When the farmers market _ for the day in Des Moines, the work some is just getting __. From May through October, _ of volunteers from Great __ Bank spend several hours _ Saturday loading empty tubs _ carts and walking several _ to visit vendors for _ donations.
The Meals from the Market program began seven ago as a collaboration __ several community organizations in Iowa capital city to _ feed people in need. __ responded with impressive donations. __ 2015, Maytag Dairy Farms __ nearly 450 pounds of _ to the worthy cause.
Great Western Bank customer, _&_;_, donated more than 6,000 _ of corn. Once the _ is collected and the _ are loaded, it’s then _ to 13 central Iowa _ pantries.
This year, 64 Des _ area Great Western Bank _ volunteered their time by __ 425 hours at the over thirteen weekends, alternating the Downtown Farmers’ Market open with other local . Through their efforts, the __ collected an estimated 44,813 with an estimated value __ $156,841.83, surpassing the program’s 2016 goal of an estimated 42,857 meals valued at $150,000.00.
Of the 51,963 pounds __ food collected, 12,600 pounds sweet corn generously donated __ Great Western Bank customer _ Penick.
In its eighth year, from the Market has put over 218,000 meals _ into the local community __ Des Moines, Iowa.
