We’ve been helping out neighbors throughout our 80-year __, but in 2016 we a new platform for _ back to the communities __ serve. True to our __, we named this initiative _ Life Great Grants. These _-_ donations will be awarded __ a quarterly basis to _ organizations within our nine-state footprint .
Each community is unique. __ want to play a role in shaping our _. What do they need __ be successful? Is it _ housing, an educated workforce, revitalization of a key __? This October we awarded first ever Making Life Grants. Read what our recipients had to say this important community partnership.
Mount Ayr Community Schools
Chris Elwood, Elementary Principal, Ayr Community Schools:
The Mount Ayr Community School is planning on the elementary playground before beginning of the 2017-2018 _ year.
The project will include:
- Getting rid of old _
- Getting rid of the _ chips
- Moving the remaining equipment __ different locations on the .
- Replacing the wood chips _ rubber tile
- Purchasing new equipment to to the playground.

“Hawthorn Hill is very __ for the $10,000 grant _ Great Western Bank’s Making _ Great Grant Program.The grant _ be used for Hawthorn _’_ The Home Connection program. The funding from Western Bank will be _ towards the renovation of _ dilapidated 6-plex housing unit _ has 1-bedroom units that _ be converted into three 2-__ units that will provide __ for homeless single mothers _ 1 to 2 children. The multifamily property will allow Home Connection to serve families and help them _ self-reliant.

The Home Connection program been providing supportive housing homeless families and their for 30 years; since 1986. During the 30 years Home Connection has been _ homeless families; more than 700 families have been served.
The Home Connection provides housing and supportive services __ assist homeless families with _ and retaining permanent housing achieving financial independence through , job training and education. families that come to Home Connection for help not only homeless and _ low income, but also _ multiple barriers that keep _ from obtaining and retaining __ such as poor rental __ and evictions; unemployed or ; lack of education and skills; criminal record; history __ suffering from domestic abuse; _ substance abuse; etc.

In recent years individuals families in Weld County, , have been consistently turned _ from local shelters to sleeping in places not for human habitation, such __ in a car or a bridge. Despite the _ efforts of local shelters, is not enough ongoing __ capacity; the number of _ experiencing homelessness has been . This creates an emergency deadly situation during cold __ months.
Since 2011, United Way __ Weld County has convened Weld Homeless Coalition , a diverse group __ organizations and people working __ prevent and alleviate homelessness. its founding, the Coalition operated a cold weather __, utilizing space at area and hotel vouchers to homeless folks out of cold and into a _ bed at night.
“With this generous contribution _ Great Western Bank, United of Weld County will _ the Weld Homeless Coalition __ offering this safety net again from October 2016 __ April 2017. The 2016-2017 _ weather shelter plans include _ dedicated space for single men and the use __ hotel vouchers for homeless and families.
